Gorgie Road City Farm
Published: 15th June 2010
Established in the late 1970's and opened officially in 1982, Gorgie City Farm is known by several generations of visitors. The farm is a well established, favourite place to visit for many people in Edinburgh and the Lothians, and for some, we seem to be hidden away, screened from the busy traffic in Gorgie Road.
The farm, with it's animals and gardens, has always been considered as a place to visit, relax and see what is new, and of course with no admission charge, people can call in for short visits, to have lunch, or just to take some fresh air even on the most dismal winter's day.
The farm is welcoming and all inclusive, open to all, and has something for everyone whatever their background or abilities. It is also surprising to many people to find the wide range of services and activities that can be found in such a small place.
The farm operates for the community, and it depends on support from many people and in many ways. The farm receives grants for various projects, donations from individuals and organizations, and provides services that are paid for by the public. Most of all the farm depends on volunteers, working with animals, in the gardens, in the office, with visitors and on the board of trustees. If you would like to be involved, please come and speak to any member of the farm's staff.
