Bishops Park courts to be refurbished Tennis Street, London Surrey England
Published: 22nd July 2010
Hot news... our sources tell us the courts at Bishops Park in Hammersmith will close on 13th September 2010 for a major refurbishment programme. Five of the new courts will be floodlit, and all will have longer run-ups and conform to LTA standards. There will be mini-tennis courts too, though the number of full size courts will be reduced from 15 to 12. The refurbishment will interrupt the next round of our Bishops Park Tennis League, but luckily there are neighbouring courts that can be used. All worth it in the end!

Why local tennis leagues? Tennis Street, London Surrey England
Published: 14th July 2010
Nearly half a million adults in the UK play a game of tennis every week - and many of those games are played on local park and community courts. It's impressive, especially when you realise how little of the tennis is in any way organised. We want to give people a structure to their matches, so they can enjoy them more and play even more. We also want to celebrate the wonderful facilities that so many local council's provide. Take as one example, the courts in Gladstone Park, North West London where we recently set up a league. This is one of several photos we have just put up on the site: http://www.localtennisleagues.com/gladstonepark

Tell us about the courts on your... Tennis Street, London Surrey England
Published: 8th July 2010
We are always on the lookout for new locations to set up friendly competitive tennis leagues. Our priority is to find public locations where there are good facilities, but where there might not be a structure available to run competitions. A suitable location is likely to have a minimum of four all-weather courts and ideally more. If indoor facilities or floodlighting is available, then all the better. Anyone is very welcome to suggest a site - it might the local park where you play, or a centre that you have heard about. We are particularly keen to hear from local authorites and tennis development officers who would like to use Local League Tennis as a partner in the development of their tennis facilities. A local league is right up your... Tennis Street, London Surrey England
Published: 7th July 2010
As you know, Tennis Street is a real place. It is home of the Southwark Coroners Court which isn't the kind of court you use for tennis! But we are hoping that this virtual Tennis Street will become synonymous with Local Tennis Leagues, our organisation bringing friendly, competitive mixed singles to public courts up and down the country. Take for example the Paddington Rec Tennis League. We are recruiting for the next round now (it starts on July 12th). It costs just £10 to enter, there are free tennis balls if you complete three matches by the halfway point, and if you win your group, you win £10. See the site for details: www.localtennisleagues.com/paddingtonrec

A virtual home for Local Tennis Leagues! Tennis Street, London Surrey England
Published: 6th July 2010
Not far from Tennis Street in South London are the courts we use for the Southwark City Tennis League - just one of a fast-growing network of Local Tennis Leagues. From this virtual address, as well as publishing any info we get about the real Tennis Street, we will keep you informed about Local Tennis Leagues. Local Tennis Leagues really is tennis that's up your street. Local leagues fondly mangaged on much-loved local courts. From the Meadows in Edinburgh to the Kingsway courts in Brighton and Hove, we are encouraging a revolution in public park tennis. See the list in full at www.localtennisleagues.com and why not get playing yourself. Nigel
