We bake our baguettes, pies and patisserie in our shops every morning so we can vouch for their freshness and quality.

We sell our sandwiches and salads on one day only and offer any leftover food to charity in the evening.  The next morning we start all over again. All our coffee is Fairtrade and our milk is organic.

We value good service as much as we value good food.  EAT. people are quick to serve but also take time to be courteous and friendly. Wherever possible, we use simple packaging materials that can be recycled.

New recipes come, old recipes go. When we make menu changes, we like to know what our customers think so please let us know.

Join us inside or on the candle-lit terrace for pre-theatre dinner, where we offer freshly baked British pies served with mash and gravy and a great selection of keenly priced beer and wine.

Caffe Vergnano was delighted to be invited by the Southbank Centre to open a second outlet at their prestigious venue. The new shop will be seven times larger than the current one in Leicester Square, featuring an Italian bar with a restaurant.

What’s On In London Magazine, declared Caffe Vergnano “Coffee Shop of the Year 2005/6”, and the managing editor, Roger Foss, came to present the certificate at the Restaurant Show.

Giles Coren wrote of the coffee earlier this May in the Times: “Caffe Vergnano…[is] the only purveyor of food or drink in the world past whose premises I am truly unable to walk without entering. It happens to sell the best coffee I’ve ever drunk, anywhere. Travel whatever hundreds of miles you must, just for a cup of coffee. It’s worth it. And double worth it.”

Gordon Ramsay, visited the Caffe Vergnano stand at the Restaurant Show 2005. He was shown the Vergnano way of making coffee and what makes the 1882 blend so unique. His verdict: “A remarkably sublime coffee.”

Most recently in the Times “Coffee Uncovered” publication, under the title of London's top spots for a coffee break, it credits Caffe Vergnano as serving "the best espresso in London".

It’s the 124-year-old Italian coffee dynasty that has turned espresso making into something of a religion. Aromatic and full-bodied espresso with a beautiful ‘crema’ is dispensed from a gleaming Elektra espresso machine and arrives on an Armani tray with a glass of water to clear the palette. Cappuccino is served with 1882 stencilled on the creamy foam in chocolate powder.

So sit back and relax - you are in the hands of experts.

DJs, VJs and live performers
Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, Concrete hosts some of London and the global music scene's most experimental DJs, VJs and live performers transforming this bar into a hidden gem of a club night. Soak up everything from deep house to 1960s funk, taking in ska, soul, and everything else in between.

Day menu
The cafe offers a changing menu throughout the day and into the evening, which includes a sweet bakery selection, featuring beetroot and seed cake, pizzetta, hot pots and Taleggio toasties and healthy salads. Coffee is supplied by Union Hand Roasted in London.

At night the bar serves a striking range of drinks including Snow Fennel Martini. The drinks list is eclectic and independent. It takes its inspiration from Austria and Portugal for wine and offers reputable house spirits such as Broker’s Gin, Pikesville Straight Rye whisky and Doorly’s Five Year Old Rum.

Design
The design of Concrete echoes the Hayward Gallery’s striking 1960s architecture.

The gallery's extensive use of concrete both inside and outside is visible in the cafe interior, which has been stripped back to expose the original concrete walls and services.

The fixtures and furnishings provide an informal and relaxed feel to the space.
