    Nelson's Column is one of the major historic landmarks located on Trafalgar Square in the central area of London.  A `must see` London tourist attraction when next visiting London on a holiday or business trip Nelson's Column arrived in Trafalgar Square in 1843, and commemorates the one-armed, one-eyed admiral who died defeating Napoleon at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The column is 169 feet 5 3/4 inches (51.659 meters) high, and the statue is actually more than triple life-size. The four bronze lions at the base of the column, by Edwin Landseer, didn't arrive until 1868.
