  Nelson's Column is one of the major historic landmarks located on Trafalgar Square in the central area of London.  A `must see` London tourist attraction when next visiting London on a holiday or business trip Nelson's Column arrived in Trafalgar Square in 1843, and commemorates the one-armed, one-eyed admiral who died defeating Napoleon at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The column is 169 feet 5 3/4 inches (51.659 meters) high, and the statue is actually more than triple life-size. The four bronze lions at the base of the column, by Edwin Landseer, didn't arrive until 1868.   London’s Trafalgar Square was laid out between 1829 and 1841 to commemorate Lord Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.
