Nick Griffin: out on his ear

Telegraph View The BNP leader was cold-shouldered by Buckingham Palace for his bad manners.

So the bogeyman was barred from the castle. Nick Griffin, noisome leader of the BNP, expected to spend yesterday afternoon wolfing tea and sandwiches at one of the Queen's Buckingham Palace garden parties. Instead, the Palace informed him that his invitation had been withdrawn because he had used it for "party political purposes". Mr Griffin is delighted by the notion that his politics were to blame – he was asked in his capacity as an MEP for North West England and claims his enforced absence was an insult to his constituents – but let us explain the situation to him. Garden parties, like the honours system, are a means by which thousands of people who do good works are quietly thanked for their efforts. Bragging about attending on GMTV is not in the spirit of the thing. Mr Griffin's wretched politics have nothing to do with the matter: it is his manners that are to blame.
