Meanwhile.. Bopara fills his boots for England A

Published: 5th July 2010

After being once touted as the Next Big Thing, Ravi Bopara has fallen out of Test contention and now plies his trade for the England Lions. On Sunday, the Lions met West Indies A at New Road, posting a massive total of 345 all out in 49.1 overs. Test regulars Ian Bell and Jon Trott were both out for one, it was Bopara with able support from all round Peter Trego who kept the scorers busy. It's been a while since an England batsmen posted a massive one day score, normally we're on the receiving end, and Bopara's knock of 168 off 140 balls was his highest in the shorter form of the game. He scored his three centuries against the West Indies in 2009, and the twenty-three boundaries and two sixes struck must've been equally satisfying. Peter Trego kept momentum going following Bopara's dismissal, his 73 was equally rapid. Only four batsmen even made double figures in Englands hefty total, despite Trego's late heroics the last 5 wickets fell for just 38 runs.

In reply West Indies A lost three quick wickets. Dwayne Bravo took the score onto 152-3 before becoming Bopara's first victim with the ball for 62 and despite a partnership of 95 with Kevin Stoute, a rapid collapse followed. The tourists were bowled out for 221, Bopara and Trego once again took the plaudits with 4-34 and 5-40. So West Indies A lose 3 in a row, whilst India A are up next again for the Lions.
