At least we're good at ONE team sport

England Lgo

As one set of 'lions' prove to be toothless and lame, another prove their bite to be a little more deadly..

So what was the fuss about the Australian cricket team? After stuffing them in the T20 final, England now take an assailable 3-0 lead in the NatWest series.

The 'England' team (I use the term loosely) struggled past Australia in the third one day international at Old Trafford yesterday. After holding the fearsome likes of Paine, Hopes and Bollinger to a modest 212 all out in 46 overs. England sweaked home with one wicket and just five balls to spare.

Our disparate bunch of cricketers seems to have collared another South African to add to their collection. Craig Kieswetter has suddenly burst onto the scene this summer and done a passable impression of Adam Gilchrist despite falling for a golden duck this time around. Its encouraging to see the big guns delivering, Anderson continues to alternate between world beater and going for a hatful (3-22 was one of his good days) and Swann cut through the upper order when they Australians looked like racking up a big score. The establised batsmen all chipped in, test captain Strauss playing the anchor role, scoring 87 off 121 balls with eight boundaries.

A middle order collapse reminiscent of mediocre England of the 1990s meant Bresnan dragged us to victory with just a wicket in hand. In short, what shouldve been a comfortable victory from 183-5 ended up being much closer in the end.
