3rd ODI - England dish out a spanking
Published: 13th July 2010

Typically our boys are on the receiving end of this sort of thing. With the sting of a first defeat against the Tigers, England struck back in fine style. Strauss's men crushed Bangladesh by 144 runs at Edgbaston to take the series 2-1. Kieswetter's continued his poor run of form, out without scoring in the first over. Captain Strauss and Jonathan Trott then put on 250 at better than a run a ball for the second wicket. This was the highest ever partnership in ODIs for any England wicket - Trott scored his first hundred in this form of cricket, 110 off 121 balls with 12 fours. It was Strauss who really took the Bangladeshi trundlers to the cleaners. The opener must've taken the defeat in the last ODI personally as his steady style became almost contemptuous as the innings progressed. He was finally out taking one risk too many for a career best 154. A lusty straight drive pouched by Shakib at cover. The fireworks continued with the arrival of Bopara at the crease. Looks like he's facing tennis balls right now, following a T20 hundred and a stonking score vs India A and certainly didn't disappoint here. Bopara needed just 16 balls to reach his 45 not out, creaming 28 off the final over bowled by the hapless Rubel. England ended on 347-7 in their 50 overs, their third highest total ODI ever.. For a team who'd just been spanked comprehensively with the ball, Bangladesh came out swinging. It seems like England now have the measure of wonderboy Tamin. He came out all guns blazing, but a slower ball from Shahzad does for him at 16. In the end Bangladesh fell well short, Shafiul misses a straight one from Bopara who completed a superb all round return with bowling figures of 4-38. So, an emphatic victory for England. Captain is in fine nick with the willow and other batsmen are proving their worth too. Pakistan up next, which should prove to be an altogether more challenging prospect..
