2nd ODI: So thats ANOTHER England team that believes it's own hype then!

Published: 10th July 2010

So after 3 wins over Australia we're world beaters again then?! Complacency returns in the second ODI at Bristol. Where England lost for the first time ever against Bangladesh(??!). The Tigers have only been at the top table for a decade and have had some sucesses, notably in an ODI victory against Australia in 2005. Against England they hadn't won in 20 outings, and after posting 236-7 on a batting wicket, it looked like the sequence would continue.

However, wickets fell at regular intervals to peg England back in their run chase. England middle order offered token resistance when slumping to 166-7 with just ten overs to go. With everything to prove after a recent lapse in form, Trott then upped the ante in raising the run rate. However his efforts fell just short, Broad was caught off the bowling of captain Mortaza and Anderson was dismissed shortly after. Last, hobbling out of the hutch was Ian Bell with runner Eion Morgan in the final over. Trott had 8 to score off the final six balls, but just had to much to do. He nicked one behind off the nagging medium pace of Shafiul (2-38) with three balls to go, last out for a vigilant 94.

So, lets hope its a wake up call then. England lose by five runs for a first time defeat by Bangladesh. Trott adds another big score against the Tigers (he scored a double hundred in the test series in March) and Anderson is toothless again. Last match of the series at Edgbaston on Monday.
