" I don't need a pass, son..."

A couple of years back I was lucky enough to get a job at Lords. Being paid to watch a bit of cricket, about as good as it gets, right?
I worked up with the gods, in the Upper Mound Stand. Best views in the ground, amongst all the well-heeled members enjoying jugs of Pimms and Wolf Blass wine.
Of course, being the best place in the ground to be, there was no end of people trying the luck getting up to the top. Our job was to keep the riff raff out: no pass, no entry.
One time I was on the second level of the stand, looking down to see a gent in a linen suit and matching hat striding purposefully up. My view of his face was obscured. I call down, asking "Excuse Me, Sir... do you have a pass?".
He looked up and said "I don't need a pass, son.." and I certain couldnt argue... It was Geoffrey Boycott.
