The Practice was founded in 1964 by Dr David Manson, one of the pioneers of the treatment for Periodontal Disease in the United Kingdom. He was succeeded by Dr Alan Sidi in 1989 who came from a similar teaching and research background. In 1991, we expanded treatments to include Dental Implant Surgery. Our surgery is now dedicated exclusively to the treatment of Periodontal Disease and Implant Surgery with the support of a team of hygienists.

GUM DISEASE

Gum disease is a serious problem for dental health. It is one of the main causes of tooth loss. Signs of gum disease can be bleeding from the gums, loose teeth or teeth drifting from their normal position. Gum recession and bad breath can also be signs of gum disease, although there can be other causes for these.

Treatment of Gum Disease
Treatment of gum disease involves assessment and instruction in oral hygiene techniques which are tailored to each individual by our team of hygienists. They also provide advice about dental care and carry out cleaning in a special way to improve the health of the gums.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth and are made of special material which allows the bone to heal around them.They are placed in the bone where the roots of the teeth used to be. Where insufficient bone remains, special techniques have been developed to increase the amount of bone which allows implant treatment to go ahead.

How many teeth can be replaced?
Implants can be used to replace a single tooth or where patients have no teeth at all, they can be used to provide a fixed bridge or used to make a loose denture more stable.

Aftercare
Once implants are restored they need careful maintenance like your own teeth.

How long do they last?
Implants have been extensively researched and can offer a predictable way of replacing missing teeth. However, this is a complex treatment which requires very careful planning at the outset and needs to be carried out by experienced practictioners for long term success.

How do they look and feel?
Patients report a new lease of life once the implant treatment has been completed, being able to eat and enjoy food again with confidence. The implants can feel and look like natural teeth.
