Hoops confident on Ambrose deal

Palace midfielder still a target

Queens Park Rangers have not given up hope of signing Crystal Palace midfielder Darren Ambrose.

Manager Neil Warnock, who left Palace for Rangers in March, is keen on raiding his former club for the services of Ambrose and had a £750,000 bid rejected earlier in the summer.

But Warnock is determined to bring the 26-year-old to Loftus Road, and is currently waiting to hear back from his former employers on an improved bid.

Palace's new owners CPFC 2010 have been keen to stress that they are not wanting to sell their top players, but Warnock's assistant Mick Jones is hopeful a deal will still go through.

"The bid's on the table and it's substantial. Remember, we took him to Palace on a free transfer and we feel the bid is more than fair," Jones told the Kilburn Times.

"But Neil's in two minds in that he wants to look after Palace as well and that's why the offer is a good one. If they ask for more I can't see us upping the bid, but equally I can't see them keeping a player who doesn't want to be there.

"Hopefully it's going to get resolved and Darren will become our player before the start of the season. If he doesn't, we've got other people in mind."

If a deal for Ambrose goes through, he will be the third player that Warnock has swooped from Palace, following in the footsteps of Shaun Derry and Clint Hill who have made the switch from Selhurst Park this summer.
