Crystal Palace's Shaun Derry agrees to make QPR switch

Published: 23rd June 2010

Crystal Palace captain Shaun Derry has agreed to join Queens Park Rangers on a two-year deal from 1 July.

The 32-year-old combative midfielder will link up with his new team-mates when his current Palace deal expires.

Derry played 228 times for the Eagles between 2002 and 2005 and from 2007 - with a spell at Leeds in between.

Manager Neil Warnock told QPR's official website: "I felt we needed another type of midfielder to what we already have."

Derry began his career at Notts County in the 1990s before moving to Sheffield United in 1998. After two years he joined Portsmouth before signing for Crystal Palace in 2002.

Spells at Nottingham Forest, on loan, and Leeds followed before returning to Selhurst Park as one of Warnock's first signings as Crystal Palace boss.

Derry said he was looking forward to being re-united with his former manager: "Neil was a big sway. When he comes calling, you have to consider what he brings to the table and I really like working with him.

"He knows what he wants and he's got a way of getting the best out of people. Whenever I've played under him, I've played my best football and long may that continue."
