    Published: 9th August 2010

QPR   4 - 0   Barnsley QPR started the new season in style as they hammered Barnsley and gave notice of their promotion intentions. Heidar Helguson's penalty sent them on their way, although Barnsley hit the post through Adam Hammill and Jason Shackell, before Jamie Mackie's tap in. Barnsley conceded another penalty when Shackell fouled Helguson and this time Adel Taarabt scored the spot-kick. The rout was complete when Hogan Ephraim laid on a tap-in for Rangers skipper Fitz Hall. The result was the perfect way for Neil Warnock's side to begin justifying their tag as one of the clubs tipped for promotion. And with the impressive Taarabt in their ranks - the former Tottenham midfield

The 27-year-old forward, who was signed from Birmingham for £1m in 2008, has struggled to regain his best form since returning from a broken leg last year. "I'll treat him with the respect he's due," said Rangers boss Neil Warnock. "He's a good player and a good pro but I like to be straight with people and I can't see him playing many games for us this season." Meanwhile, Italian striker Allesandro Pellicori is having talks with a number of clubs after also being told he is not in Warnock's plans. Pellicori, 29, was signed on a t

Alberti off to Italy Hoops midfielder heads home Queens Park Rangers midfielder Matteo Alberti has joined Italian side AC Lumezzane on a season-long loan deal. The 21-year-old moved to Loftus Road from Chievo in the summer of 2008, but has struggled to make an impact in England. He has been restricted to just 14 first-team appearances during his time at Loftus Road, making only six starts. It appeared as though he had found his feet when he netted a spectacular brace in a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest in February 2009, but he has failed to push on from that point. He failed to make a single appearance for the club last season and that lack of activity has convinced him that the time has come to move on. He will be hoping that a spe

Vine was left out of manager Neil Warnock's pre-season tour of Italy, leaving the striker to question whether he still has a future at Loftus Road. The former Luton man struggled to force his way into the first team last season, making just eight league starts, and the 27-year-old feels he may to have leave the R's. Vine still has two years remaining on his existing deal at the Londoners and he said he would consider making a loan move in order to feature regularly in the new campaign.
