Below is a map of Edgware road detailing some of the attractions that are close by...

Subway Gallery:

Take the pedestrian subway below Edgware Road and Harrow Road and you'll come across a hidden corner of culture in the Subway Gallery. Situated under landmarks like Paddington Green, the Marylebone flyover and the Metropole Hilton Hotel, the gallery specialises in contemporary artists. Born on 6th June 2006 (06-06-06), the gallery was conceived by artist and curator Robert Gordon McHarg, the space itself is a 1960s kiosk with glass walls - a former shoe repair shop - which creates a unique showcase for art. If you've ventured this far underground, with four lanes of traffic accelerating overhead, it'd be a shame not to check out what's going on in the gallery.

Mon to Sat 11am-7pm

Cafe Du Liban:

Popular Turkish café with outdoor seating and shisha pipes.

Forget cream teas and chintz, cucumber sandwiches and scones, and instead think thick, strong, black coffee dotted with cardamon pods, sticky, syrupy, sweet pastries, mint tea and bubbling shisha pipes. For a decidedly more exotic refreshment break, head to Cafe du Liban – a traditional Lebanese coffee bar on the Edgware Road. Long a haunt of London’s North African enclave, on a hot summer’s day Edgware Road appears more Maghreb than Marylebone. Along both sides of the street you’ll find a host of cafés teeming with men in Shalwar Qameez and white caps sipping coffees, or smoking shisha on the outside tables. Café du Liban is one of the longest running, and one of the most interesting and welcoming. Inside it’s clean and bright with large mirrors but, if you can, try and get a seat outside on the pavement and enjoy the bustling, vibrant atmosphere of this unique area of town. No doubt you’ll be tempted by the mouth-watering range of authentic Tunisian, Moroccan and Middle Eastern foods, ask for full English translations and descriptions of the cooking process, which are guaranteed to get your salivatory glands working overtime.

Best for:
Shisha pipes (outside only), sweet pastries, strong, syrupy coffee and pavement seating.

Did you know?
Tradition has it that when passing a hookah to another person the mouthpiece must point away from the receiver who should, in turn, tap the giver on the back of the hand.

Daily from 9:00-00:30

Speakers Corner: - 3 minutes walk from Edgware Road.

Not strictly classed "entertainment", this bastion of British free public speech and free assembly can prove one of the most absorbingly unique, theatrical activities the city has to offer. Located on the corner of Park Lane and Cumberland Gate, opposite Marble Arch tube, Speakers' Corner is the spiritual home of the British democratic tradition of soapbox oratory. Every Sunday since the right of free assembly was recognised in 1872 in the Royal Parks and Garden's Act, people from all walks of life have gathered to listen to speeches about anything and everything... and to heckle. From Socialism to Sunday trading, sausages to space invaders, the opinions aired here are varied and fascinating. While Karl Marx, Lenin, George Orwell, and William Morris have all used this spot to express their ideals and beliefs, your average speaker isn't quite as high profile. The coherence of the speakers also varies greatly, but as a whole it makes for great street theatre. Come and watch, come and heckle, or, if you have a burning desire to share your opinions with the world, come and spout - take something to stand on and start pontificating. Although Sunday morning is the best time to visit, speakers can now be found on the corner throughout the week.

Best for: Marxism, Socialism, Capitalism, public protestations and pontifications, rants and ramblings.
