Harrods summer sale

Published: 22nd June 2010

Mr Al-Fayed may have sold the iconic Knightsbridge store but the Harrods Summer Sale goes ahead as per usual, beginning at 9am on 19th June. The well known department store is a national institution and its twice-yearly sales create unusually high levels consumer excitement - some might say hysteria. For the summer sale, over 3,000 temporary staff are drafted in to cope with the frenetic activity over the six floors of designer goods with around 250,000 shoppers expected on the first day alone. There are some real bargains to be had on an impressive range of goods, but if you've got your eye on the 42" Panasonic flat screen TV at half price you'll have to get there early. Be prepared to struggle with the huge crowds - the hunt for discounted goods has only been heightened by current economic conditions.

Gorgeous Eva Herzigova opened the Harrods Summer Sale on Saturday 19th June 2010. Looking stunning in a nude D&G dress, Louboutin heels and Chopard earrings she arrived in a horse-drawn landau before declaring the sale officially open.

The Czech-born model and actress arrived flanked by footmen dressed in the store's famous green livery and preceded by a band of pipers.

She was greeted with a kiss on both cheeks by a smiling Mohamed Al Fayed, Harrods Honorary Chairman, before posing outside for the cheering crowds and awaiting photographs.

Once inside Ms Herzigova told waiting members of the public: "Good morning and a very, very warm welcome. I am delighted to be here at this prestigious event in Harrods this morning to open the summer sale at the world's most famous fashion store. So get ready to shop."

Mr Al Fayed and Ms Herzigova then took part in a countdown, before the queues of shoppers streamed through the doors to begin hunting for bargains

The Harrods sale will run until Sunday July 11 2010.
