  • BBC move signals the end of an era for Wood Lane Wood Lane, London Middlesex England

    Published: 21st August 2012

The BBC, the UK’s public service broadcaster, has confirmed the sale of the most iconic building in UK television history, with the announcement that Stanhope, a property developer, is to buy Television Centre in west London for about £200 million, the Financial Times has reported. BBC director-general Mark Thompson said that the deal was sealed after the First Night of the Proms. The building, which first opened on 29 June 1960, was the BBC’s first purpose-built site for television production. Popular comedies Fawlty Towers and Monty Python, classic sci-fi drama Doctor Who and, for many years, the UK’s most watched music show Top of the Pops, were all filmed there. The sale is part of the BBC’s attempts to

The match has been awarded to London's showpiece stadium, which hosted this year's final, to mark the Football Association's 150th anniversary. "This may seem exceptional but I think it was important for us to respect this anniversary of our game," said Uefa president Michel Platini. Wembley's staging of this year's final was regarded as a resounding success. The cheapest tickets on general sale for the 2011 final were priced at £150 plus a £26 administration fee and the cheapest package for one adult and one child was only available in category two seats and cost £338.

  • BBC has most online influence Wood Lane, London Middlesex England

    Published: 30th November 2010

The BBC stands head and shoulders above online rivals when it comes to shaping opinions on business reputations, while The Times' impact has dropped off in the year it introduced a paywall. The TLG Thought Leadership Index 2010 surveyed 1,000 business leaders, representing media, comms, politics, charities and corporates. It found more than half (51 per cent) of those polled in the UK thought the BBC website had the most influence over the way companies were perceived. The Financial Times' website came in second (26 per cent), while The Times site, gated since 25 May, took third place with six per cent. Commenting on the findings, Jon McLeod, UK chairman corporate comms and public affairs at Weber Shandwick, said: 'The Times suffers

  • BBC staff slam executive culture Wood Lane, London Middlesex England

    Published: 27th October 2010

Little more than a third (38%) of BBC employees believe senior leaders communicate their strategies effectively, while just 45% of staff feel BBC executives behave in a way that is consistent with the broadcaster's values. These are some of the damning results of this year’s BBC staff survey, the results of which were published in this week’s staff magazine, Ariel.   The 2010 survey – the first since 2008, which had 14,249 responses – took place in May this year, before controversial changes to the organisation’s pension scheme were announced. It finds only 50% of staff (a rise of just 1% on the last survey) think there are opportunities to develop their career there, and only 54% think the BBC is

  • Employer Brand Healthcheck: BBC Wood Lane, London Middlesex England

    Published: 14th October 2010

The broadcaster's reputation as 'the' place for aspiring media professionals is under threat. Internal dissatisfaction over high executive pay is exacerbated by job cuts and pension reforms. Not since the first fuzzy transmissions were beamed from Alexandra Palace 88 years ago has a burden of expectation hung so heavily on the shoulders of BBC staff. With a multi-platform, multi-channel era ushering in media consumption Lord Reith could only have imagined, renewal of the £3.5 billion licence fee in 2013 is anything but certain. After Sir Michael Lyons ordered a strategic review of the corporation's size and quality of output (as well as having to defend salaries of its management and entertainers), its 40,000 rank-and-file staff

  • ..and on to Brisbane.. St Johns Wood Road, London Middlesex England

    Published: 22nd September 2010

Davis? good with the blade aswell as the cue? Its been a mixed international Summer and thankfully its nearly over. With all the crises and countless ODIs in front of half deserted grounds it hasnt been the most edifying season. The Pakistani cricket team seems to be disintegrating in front of our eyes (like the country doesnt have enough to think about right now). So anything but a comfortable England victory in the last ODI would be unusual. The player I feel for most of all in this situation is the young Pakistan fast bowler Mohammed Aamer. Being incriminated in the match fixing scandal of last month may have effectively snuffed out the career of a talent to match Wasim and Waquar of years past. What would any impressionable teen d
