Enter the world of the Customs officer - a dark and unseen world of smuggling, intrigue and danger, where things are not always what they seem.

One of the Seized! gallery's key themes is anti smuggling. This includes detective work, crime fighting, patrolling frontiers and investigation. In uncovering this story you will reveal some of the clever tactics of the criminal, and discover some of the methods to catch them.

A second theme explores the importance of raising taxes, how the are collected, and how we have reacted to them.

Our demonstrators will explain how customs protect endangered species and help you to make an environmentally friendly souvenir to take away.

Mobile Madness

Create your own mobile to hang in your room, inspired by our collections animal and plant themed contraband.

Model Magic

Discover how customs protect endangered species and make a model of your favourite animal to take home.

Customs Cutters

Make your own cutter in this workshop and find out about the fastest boats on the high seas!

Mother Redcap

Mother Redcap will be on the gallery to captivate you with stories and songs about the dark and dangerous world of smuggling around the Mersey.

Grave Tales

Parson Dodge will be lurking about the Gallery. If you're lucky he may stop and tell you all about the age old battle between smugglers and Customs men.
