Liverpool Boat Show
The inaugural Liverpool Boat Show, set to take place in Spring in the historic surroundings of the Albert Dock, will be a major international spectacle attracting 400,000 visitors over 10 days. From 29 April - 8 May 2011 the Dock complex will be transformed into a nautical festival as the city's waterfront plays host to the biggest event of its kind in Europe.
Uniquely for a show of this type, the organisers of the Liverpool Boat Show have created an event designed not just for committed boating enthusiasts but also for the general public. Exhibitors and enthusiasts from all over all the world will descend on the waterfront to take part in a full of programme of water-based entertainment and demonstrations for all the family, including wake-boarding, power boat racing, water-skiing and championship sailing - a sure way of getting a whole new generation of would-be participants to find out more about the pleasures of boating.
Traditional paying show visitors will have exclusive access to the Main Marina and the majority of the exhibitor marquees, plus the 'have-a-go' experiences, practical workshops and demonstrations. Non-paying spectators will enjoy free entrance to the Boat Show site where they can be part of the overall spectacle, enjoy the water-based entertainments and visit a selection of the land-based exhibitors and feature boats.
A touch of Monte Carlo will arrive on Merseyside as the dockside will welcome hundreds of boats of all shapes and sizes that will reside on the waterfront for visitors to enjoy throughout the duration of the event. A number of Tall Ships will also be arriving in Liverpool to coincide with the show.
The star-studded Liverpool Comedy Festival, which regularly attracts some of the biggest names in the comedy world, will run consecutively with the Boat Show for the first time. Some of the acts who are set to star across the city will be entertaining the gathering masses down on the waterfront across a number of selected venues, including on a floating stage.
The much-loved Guinness Bar, for decades the sailor's traditional show meeting point, is also making a splash at the show in a stunning location on the Wapping Dock, overlooking the action packed aqua theatre. Other highlights will include an appearance from the Royal Navy as well as an International Sea Shanty Festival.
