FRANK WARREN PRESENTS CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING
23 Oct 10
Liverpool hero Paul Smith will face Paul David in a defence of his British super-middleweight title at the Echo Arena on Saturday 23 October.
Smith is set to make the second defence of his title in front of his passionate home support. A win would leave him just one step away from owning a prestigious Lonsdale belt outright, following victories over rivals Tony Quigley and Tony Dodson.
Smith said, "I am fully focused on Paul David, who is a really dangerous opponent. I know though that he is standing between me and my ambitions to win a world title.”
"I want to do two things in the next 12 months - win a Lonsdale belt outright, and then go on to compete at the highest level. In my last three or four fights I have known that any kind of slip up will destroy my plans. This fight is no different."
David, a 26-year-old from Northampton, is a former Midlands Area super-middleweight champion, and has also won the English title during a four year career. More recently, he made the final of ‘Prizefighter’, losing narrowly to Patrick Mendy.
Also in action will be Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion Tony Bellew, as well as Liam Smith (Paul's younger brother), Ronnie Heffron, and top prospects Joe Selkirk and Tobias Webb.
Please note: Under 14's must be accompanied by an adult. Line-up subject to change.
*Paul David has replaced Darren McDermott as main bout contender due to injury.
