Marvel Productions has chosen to film major stunt scenes for Captain American on location in Manchester and Liverpool.
It’s the first time the Hollywood studio, which was behind X-Men and The Hulk, has filmed outside of America.
The crew will spend 2-3 weeks in the region shooting a car chase in Manchester's Northern Quarter and an action sequence in Liverpool, mainly around Stanley Dock.

Both locations will be transformed into 1940s New York, with the docks playing host to a large scale model of a World War II submarine.
Chris Evans (Fantastic Four) plays the lead role in the movie, with Joe Johnson directing. Also starring are Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atweel and Samuel L Jackson.
It took a year of negotiation between Marvel and Vision+Media and Liverpool City Council's Film Office to bring it to the North West:
"We were approached in February by the locations manager who wanted 1940s New York streets to compliment locations already sourced in Liverpool. We suggested Manchester's Northern Quarter to Marvel as its wide streets, towering buildings and pre-war architecture make the perfect backdrop for 1940s New York,” said Susan Williams, drama liaison manager at Vision+Media.
"Once the location was confirmed, it was our job to consult with Manchester City Council, CityCo, local businesses and residents, to ensure that it is a positive experience for all involved. We believe that projects such as this provide significant financial benefits for the region, providing opportunities for hotels, catering outlets and the regions talented production crew. A project of this scale will be a significant boost for the region's economy."
